The Thirteenth Amendment - Bye Bye Slavery!!

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Well, here we are at the thirteenth amendment and one of the most monumental in the history of our nation.  It took almost one hundred years, and a war that torn the nation in two and pitted brother against brother for the country to abolish slavery as a whole.  The amendment is geared towards the freedom of African slaves and those endentured servants in the south but is also made to prevent the cases against imprisonment for crimes and the labor derived from said imprisonment.  The later of which I think is a great addition as this means that prison labor can be used by the government in a form or fashion which can benefit the public for which the criminal was said removed, but enough about that!  Free the slaves!!

History of Slavery and Guns in the United States - Funny

This is a hilarious rendition of not only the history of the United States but the history of slavery and the eventual geographical segregation of American cities.  With the freedom of the slaves the invention of such dieties as the KKK and other racist organizations took root as a way to try and get the point of the minority across to the majority.  Although wrong in their views and their goals we can still see aspects of racial discrimination today, and aspects of slavery today in many other ways left over in this country.  Although free, the slaves themselves would not see freedom in a true lawful form for over another hundred years.

Free Men fighting to Free Men!!

This is the perfect movie to exemplify the fact that the Civil War in the United States was just not about the slavery aspect of politics but of the racism in the northern states as well.  These men depicted in this movie were free men who chose to fight for the ideals of the government of the United States, yet were still discriminated against for the charge they took on.  Later these soldiers would be formed into a unit called the Buffalo Soldiers who were one of the most award winning units of early wars in the United States.  Theodore Roosevelt is credited with saying that if it werent for the Buffalo Soldiers he would never have survived the battle of San Juan hill.  We owe it to men like this and all men for the freedom they fought to have then that we have now!
